INVAP
has designed and built a High Vacuum Chamber
for the Argentine Commission for Space Activities
(CONAE). This contraption is used to perform
thermovacuum tests on tele-observation cameras for the highly
successful series of Argentine environment and scientific
satellites (SAC). This one
chamber was designed with optical quality, meaning a precision
of .
Built in AISI 304 steel, this structure
has a vacuum system based on mechanical and cryogenic pumps
to reach the required high vacuum. |

0.9 meters in diameter and 1 meter in height, the chamber is
divided in two: the upper part houses the optical window, with
windowed appropriate flanges and a nitrogen container required
by the cooling conditions of the tests. The lower part is a neck
band with all the penetrations required for the electrical power
inputs and the signal outputs required for the testing and measurement
of space-quality optics. This lower part also includes the connections
for the vacuum system.
