Fot the time being, INVAP offers low power wind turbine models specially intended for use in harsh winds, such as those prevailing in Patagonia: winds are high and extremely variable and weather conditions are often unfavorable. Larger unit are in different stages of construction and development. (see below)
Due to their power range, our IVS 4500 wind turbine model is ideally suited to supply electricity to remote settlements, such as rural schools. This can be done by stand-alone installations or by combination of several units to yield up to 150 kW which can be interconnected to the grid, to provide the general system wir spare electric power. They are also being used to power telephony systems and cathodic protection of ducts and pipes against corrosion.
The main general features of our IVS 4500 generator are:
- Two-blade rotor featuring laminar wing contour to provide for smooth running, even in turbulent wind conditions.
- Monolithic seamless plastic rotor blades and expanded polyurethane cores, fiberglass reinforcement to provide maximum resistance.
- Simple effective speed control rendered by a slant of the rotor rotation plane providing for power generation even during very high winds.
- Strong, reliable mechanical design providing for stable operation. When they are to be installed in remote locations, a very usefur feature is the low frequency of maintenance operations these machines require: once a year is normally sufficient.
As shown on the illustrations, IVS 4500 machines have been installed in as diverse locations as an Argentine base in Antartica and on the roof of an urban department building which it provides with supplementary power.

In addition to automatic speed control, the IVS 4500 features a hand-brake to stop the rotors for maintenance.
The machines can be customized to a large extent. When installed on high mountainous terrain the blades are coated with a silicon base to prevent the adherence of snow or ice causing unbalanced rotation which would damage the turbine.
Whenever possible an/or required, the IVS 4500 are supplied "turn-key" on place, to ensure service rendered according to requirements ordered.
