Second Shutdown System
It is a gravity driven injection system of borated water at high
pressure, that actuates automatically when the Reactor Protection
System detects the failure of the First Shutdown System or in
case of LOCA.
The system consists of two tanks of 2 m3 located in the upper
part of the containment. A single tank produces the complete shutdown
of the reactor.
Each tank has sufficient boron to shut down by itself the reactor
within five minutes.
