Selection of the MMRS bands was
based on preceding space missions and the spectral absorption
characteristics of foliage, terrain, water constituents, average
extraterrestrial irradiances and the spectral transmittance of
the atmosphere. Data required for such selection were provided
by many applied sciences institutes. In fact, main performances
of MMRS were fixed during an ad-hoc
workshop carried out in 1994.
The selected medium resolution (100/300 m) allows compatibilization
of large area requirements covered with minimum amount of images,
with high repetition frequency, without excessive loss of details.
Besides, such a system , substantially reduces the volume of data
to be processed and analyzed.
As the satellite passes, data is captured and stored on a file
of the reception device. The system then uses data from this file
to produce the final images. The production cycle consists of
the following phases.
- Permanent Storage
- Bit-stream to byte-stream Conversion
- Framing of MMRS formats. Framing
and reconstruction from satellite format
- Generation of other data. Generation of Quick Look images
for catalog
- Catalog consulting and search for images. Product Orders
- Product processing, delivery and registration
The system also features management and maintenance systems such
as:
- User management
- Backup management
- Customer management
The system is operated by three main types of users:
- The system administrator who performs the general operation
and maintenance
- A specialist who classifies the images in the catalog
- External users who consult the catalog and issue Orders
